Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Men’s work is everywhere and nothing makes that more obvious than dank memes. Here’s a selection to share amongst family.
Facilitation 101
This is unironically the best description of facilitation work I’ve seen on the Internet. If I’m listening to a dude discuss something emotionally difficult, the instinct is often to make him feel better. Real pros know how to encourage the man to fully feel whatever emotion is coming up for them.
You are not depressed, you just need to make money
Immigrant parents have been asking this question for generations: are you depressed, or do you just need a job, a girlfriend, a better gym routine, and a nice haircut? This ancient wisdom has been confirmed by therapists who are finding that a lot of folks identifying with mental health diagnosis like “I have depression” or “I have anxiety” are using the diagnosis and label as an excuse to stop trying stuff. Psychologists call this “learned helplessness.” Papito gives daily reminders for those who need it.
More men in healthcare
We need more men who can get that dawg back in us. Richard Reeves, leader of Boys and Men project at the Brookings Institution, writes about how we need more men in HEAL jobs (health, education, administration, and literacy) - stuff like nursing, k-12 education, and social work. There are fewer men in HEAL jobs than there are women in STEM jobs.
I feel sick but not sad
There is a ton of scientific evidence that ignoring or repressing the stuff that gives us anxiety or tension can manifest as physical pain, and spending time processing it can actually reduce physical pain. Andrew Huberman detailed a protocol this week for doing exactly this.
Can’t stop won’t stop
During this holiday season, make sure you get in a little melancholic solitude. Keep the brand strong.

New online course for emotional intelligence protocols
I’ve created an online course for men’s emotional intelligence tools. It’s cheaper than therapy and in my opinion the ability to practice this stuff with a group of dudes is way more effective than learning solo. The focus is foundational skills to emotional intelligence: being present with someone else, reframing internal narratives, and emotional self-awareness. The first cohort kicks off December 5th, and subscribers to this newsletter get $50 off by clicking the button below.
